This does NOT mean that you should COPY the question.\u00a0You should say the question again, but using different words that mean the same thing (synonyms).<\/p>\n<p>For example, if your question was something like:\u00a0<em>Some people believe that capital punishment should never be used. Others believe that it could be used for the most serious crimes. Discuss both views and give your opinion.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Then the opening sentence of your introduction should use synonyms to say the question again in your own words. for example:<em>\u00a0It is a commonly held belief that the death penalty is a severe penalty and not appropriate in modern society. However, there is also an argument that the most despicable crimes should have this most severe of punishments.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Tip for Introductory Sentence:<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0The first paragraph will introduce your topic. The introduction is the most important paragraph because it provides direction for the entire essay. It also sets the tone, and you want to grab the reader\u2019s attention with interest and clarity. The best way to tackle the introduction is to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Describe your main idea, or what the essay is about, in one sentence. You can usually use the essay writing prompt or question to form this sentence.<\/li>\n<li>Develop a thesis statement, or what you want to say about the main idea.
