The use of “Had”.<\/span><\/h6>\n

I had a blue and red pen.
\nShe had a good teacher last year.
\nHe had a dog.
\nWe had a big dinner.

\nI had a test this morning.
\nThey had lunch at noon.
\nWe had homework last night.
\nWe had leftover tonight.
\nThe whole family had the flu.

The use of “Has and Have”.<\/span><\/h6>\n

We use “has and have” to show possession.<\/p>\n

have<\/p>\n

Have is used with some pronouns and plural nouns:
\nI have a great English teacher.<\/em>
\nYou have toothpaste on your chin.
\nWe have a meeting at 12.<\/em>
\nNurses have a difficult job.<\/em><\/p>\n

has<\/p>\n

Has is used with the third person singular. For example:
\nShe has a great personality.<\/em>
\nHe has a new haircut.<\/em>
\nThe washing machine has a leak in it.<\/em>
\nIt has a hole near the door.<\/em><\/p>\n

contractions<\/p>\n

I have = I’ve
\nyou have = you’ve
\nwe have = we’ve
\nthey have = They’ve
\nhe has = he’s
\nit has = it’s<\/p>\n

negative contractions<\/p>\n

has not = hasn’t
\nhave not = haven’t
\nhad not = hadn’t<\/p>\n

‘have’ and ‘has’ in questions<\/p>\n

Have you been to Australia?<\/em>
\nHas Andrew left yet?
\nWho has my pen?
\nHas anyone seen my mobile phone?<\/em><\/p>\n

‘have got’ and ‘have’<\/p>\n

Both ‘have got’ and ‘have’ mean the same thing. There is no difference.<\/p>\n

I have got an i-phone.’ = ‘I have an i-phone.
\nYou have got a message.’ = You have a message.
\nShe has got no time to sleep.’ =’She has no time to sleep.<\/p>\n

The use of “Could have”.<\/strong><\/span><\/h6>\n

We can use ‘could have’\u00a0 to talk about something somebody was capable of doing but didn’t do.<\/p>\n
