For example:<br \/>\n<em>She has a great personality.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>He has a new haircut.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>The washing machine has a leak in it.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>It has a hole near the door.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>contractions<\/p>\n<p>I have = I&#8217;ve<br \/>\nyou have = you&#8217;ve<br \/>\nwe have = we&#8217;ve<br \/>\nthey have = They&#8217;ve<br \/>\nhe has = he&#8217;s<br \/>\nit has = it&#8217;s<\/p>\n<p>negative contractions<\/p>\n<p>has not = hasn&#8217;t<br \/>\nhave not = haven&#8217;t<br \/>\nhad not = hadn&#8217;t<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;have&#8217; and &#8216;has&#8217; in questions<\/p>\n<p><em>Have you been to Australia?<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Has Andrew left yet?<br \/>\nWho has my pen?<br \/>\nHas anyone seen my mobile phone?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8216;have got&#8217; and &#8216;have&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Both &#8216;have got&#8217; and &#8216;have&#8217; mean the same thing. There is no difference.<\/p>\n<p>I have got an i-phone.&#8217; = &#8216;I have an i-phone.<br \/>\nYou have got a message.&#8217; = You have a message.<br \/>\nShe has got no time to sleep.&#8217; =&#8217;She has no time to sleep.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p align=\"left\"><a id=\"could-have\"><\/a><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h6 align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>The use of &#8220;Could have&#8221;.<\/strong><\/span><\/h6>\n<p class=\"style29\" align=\"left\">We can use &#8216;could have&#8217;\u00a0 to talk about something somebody was capable of doing but didn&#8217;t do.<\/p>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<ul>\n<li>I could have gone to Oxford University but I preferred Harvard.<\/li>\n<li>She could have married him but she didn&#8217;t want to.<\/li>\n<li>They could have bought a house here 20 years ago but chose not to.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"style29\" align=\"left\">Often, there is a sense of criticism.<\/p>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<ul>\n<li>You could have phoned me to let me know.<\/li>\n<li>They could have helped me instead of just sitting there.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0I could have done more to help you. Sorry.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"style29\" align=\"left\">We can use &#8216;couldn&#8217;t have&#8217; to talk about something we were not capable of doing.<\/p>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<ul>\n<li>I couldn&#8217;t have managed without you.<\/li>\n<li>I couldn&#8217;t have got the job. He was always going to appoint his nephew.<\/li>\n<li>I couldn&#8217;t have enjoyed myself more. Thank you for a lovely day.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"style29\" align=\"left\">We can use &#8216;could have&#8217; to speculate about what has happened. (We can also use &#8216;may have&#8217; or &#8216;might have&#8217; in these situations.)<\/p>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<ul>\n<li>She could have taken the earlier train.<\/li>\n<li>Simon could have told her.<\/li>\n<li>They could have overheard what we said.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"style29\" align=\"left\">We can also use &#8216;can have&#8217; to speculate about what has happened but only in questions and negative sentences and with words such as &#8216;hardly&#8217;, &#8216;never&#8217; and &#8216;only&#8217;.<\/p>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<ul>\n<li>Can she have forgotten about our meeting?<\/li>\n<li>He can&#8217;t have seen us.<\/li>\n<li>They can hardly have thought that I was not interested in the job.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"style29\" align=\"left\">We can also use &#8216;could have&#8217; to speculate about something that didn&#8217;t happen.<\/p>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<ul>\n<li>You could have broken your neck, jumping out the window like that.<\/li>\n<li>He could have hurt somebody, throwing a bottle out of the window like that.<\/li>\n<li>I could have done well in my exam if I&#8217;d worked harder.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"style29\" align=\"left\">You can also use &#8216;could have&#8217; to talk about possible present situations that have not happened.<\/p>\n<div align=\"left\">\n<ul>\n<li>I could have been earning a lot as an accountant but the work was just too boring.<\/li>\n<li>He could have been Prime Minister now but he got involved in a big financial scandal.<\/li>\n<li>They could have been the market leaders now if they had taken his advice.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Grammar Rules for IELTS: .
