IELTS Writing Task 01:<\/span><\/h1>\n

For the IELTS Writing Task 1 you have to summarize information that is usually represented in the form of a\u00a0table<\/a>, a\u00a0pie chart<\/a>, a\u00a0line graph<\/a>, a\u00a0bar chart<\/a>, a\u00a0diagram<\/a>, a map or a flow chart.<\/p>\n

Table:<\/strong><\/span>
\nIn Academic Writing Task 1, you need to describe some visual information. This visual information might be a table. Tables contain words, numbers or signs, or a combination of these, displayed in columns or boxes to illustrate a set of facts and the relationship between them. || Table Example<\/a> ||<\/p>\n

Pie Chart:<\/span><\/strong>
\nIn Academic Task 1 of the Writing module, you are expected to write a short descriptive report based on visual information or data. This visual information may be presented as pie charts. Pie charts are circular charts divided into sectors or \u2018pie slices\u2019, usually illustrating percentages. The size of each pie slice shows the relative quantity of the data it represents. Together, the slices create a full circle. They are commonly used in the business world and the mass media, and are less common in scientific or technical publications. || Pie Chart Example<\/a> ||<\/p>\n

Line Graph:<\/strong><\/span>
\nLine graphs can be used to show how information or data change over time. They have an x-axis (horizontal) and y-axis (vertical). Usually the x-axis shows the time period and the y-axis shows what is being measured. Line graphs can be used when you are plotting data that have peaks (ups) and troughs (downs). Bar Chart:<\/span><\/strong>
\nIt is common in the IELTS Writing paper to be asked to describe a bar graph. Bar graphs, also known as bar charts, are similar to line graphs in that they have two axes and are useful for showing how something has changed over a given period of time, especially when there are significant changes. Bar graphs consist of rectangular bars, which can be orientated horizontally or vertically, with the lengths proportional to the data values that they represent. Diagram:<\/strong><\/span>
\nSometimes IELTS Writing Task 1 requires you to describe a process. If you have a \u2018describing a process\u2019 task in the exam, you will be given a diagram with a series of pictures.
